Delhi Belly and Back To School. By Hollie, 12/5

The past couple days have been “boring” compared to others, and I found myself saying there’s no point in updating the blog. I figured there’s nothing interesting to say other than someone got “Delhi Belly” and we went to school. The thing is there’s always something going on if your part of our family.

Pepto Bismol Anyone?
I hope NONE of you ever have to experience “Delhi Belly Sickness” or watch someone go through it because it’s a pretty close version of childbirth and hell combined. I won't go into great detail, because I cant even bare to describe it, but if you have one of those curious minds, go ahead and Google it for your own weird pleasure. Essentially all I’m going to say is Diarrhea, vomit, no more toilet paper, and NO sleep. That’s all you’re getting.

ANYWAY, when “she” (you can guess which one of us it was, because I have yet to experience childbirth) recovered we made the journey to the school for another day of no lesson plan, and exhaustion to the point of desperation. Today, however, was a bit easier with the folder of gold we were given, earlier this morning. It was a folder full of letters from the students at Novato Charter School from a few years back, writing to anonymous students in India. In fact, they were from my sister's 7th grade class! The expressions on each face was priceless as each child read their letters in amazement as if it were a little treasure just waiting to be opened. Each read theirs aloud with such a sense of pride and composure I hadn’t seen expressed before. The assignment was to write back to the person and tell of their lives here in Kerala. They discovered that most things were the same, except Novato children don’t often find themselves with pet elephants, and swim in the same water that they bathe in. It was interesting to see, myself, what they wrote and I was happy to see that we were getting somewhere as a class! The letters took up most of the day, but I still found myself realizing that these class days are NOT getting shorter. Today I honestly thought Ashton was hiding behind a cow with a “you just got punked!” because honestly, that day was longer than waiting for Santa to come as a child. We finished our day at the hotel indulging in our books and sipping coconuts to our hearts content. Can't wait for the elephant adventure this weekend!!!!
